Flights of Freedom

What would Thomas Jefferson, Frederick Douglass, Shirley Chisholm, and Harvey Milk have to say to one another about freedom?

The Castle Museum invites the community to explore that question during Flights of Freedom, a unique America250 celebration on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Part history program, part tasting experience, and part thought-provoking conversation, all inside the beautiful Castle Building, Flights of Freedom pairs a flight of beverages with a "flight" through American history. Guests will enjoy their choice of hard cider, beer, or non-alcoholic lemonade flights while encountering historical interpreters portraying influential figures whose ideas, actions, and sacrifices helped redefine freedom for generations of Americans. These interpreters will read a portion of one of their most famous speeches defining their ideas about freedom.

Throughout the evening, guests will meet: Thomas Jefferson, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Shirley Chisholm, & Harvey Milk.

Together, these voices span nearly 250 years of American history, revealing how the nation's promise of liberty has been challenged, expanded, and reimagined over time.
"America's story is not a single narrative but a continuing conversation," said Outreach Coordinator Dr. Jennifer Vannette. "This event offers a chance to engage with some of the individuals who shaped that conversation while enjoying an evening of great drinks and meaningful reflection."

Tickets are just $20 per person and include one beverage flight and access to all historical presentations. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.
